Silicon Valley Women Leaders Gather to Invent Their Future
Over 250 corporate women, entrepreneurs and graduate students from across the Bay Area gathered February 26-27, 2008 for the 2nd annual Invent Your Future Conference for Women (IYF) to learn the secrets of innovation, influence and career growth. As always, when women get together, there was great energy, laughter, sharing, greeting old friends and making new ones—but attendees are also raving about the value this unique event offered for driving business value, arming attendees with highly-tuned strategies and practical resources to take their careers and companies to the next level before they walked out the door. One attendee from Sun Microsystems calls it “an eye opening, awakening experience that jolted me to start inventing my future”…one that is “relevant and appropriate to the challenges that women face in the workplace today.” Three remarkable women were also honored as “Diamond Leaders”: Jeanne Beacham (Delphon), Cathy Benko (Deloitte & Touche) and Titina Ott (Oracle). Feature Story: Busting Innovation Stereotypes
We’re excited to welcome guest contributor Sarah Miller Caldicott, great grandniece of Thomas Edison and author of “Innovate Like Edison” to share her innovation ideas. In this intriguing article, she blasts the stereotypes about innovation using colorful examples, including TV ads from IBM’s “ideating” campaign and her own personal research on best practices fostered by the man known as America’s greatest innovator. If you ever wondered how to tease out your own skills and turn your organization into an innovation center, Sarah’s tips and advice will inspire you and help you chart your course.

News: The Hottest Thing We’ve Seen: Turning Our Conference into a Storybook!
If you’re like us, there’s been more than one meeting where you’ve spent more time doodling than taking notes. Thanks to the creative wizardry of Paula Hansen, we’ve taken our conference to an entirely new dimension, and it’s a bit like Dilbert meets DaVinci. See how—from right inside our session rooms—she interpreted each speaker’s commentary and slides using a new concept called graphic facilitation. Paula’s colorful large-scale visual charts turned our walls into storyboards with words and pictures.
